About our initiative
Since September 2017, the Cinémathèque québécoise has launched an initiative to create and disseminate commons related to Quebec and Canadian cinema, so that the data and content preserved and produced by the institution for over fifty years can be made freely accessible and exploitable by all.
From a collaborative perspective, the Cinémathèque intends to promote the sharing of knowledge and the discoverability of works and artists, thus inspiring new creative gestures.
Having collaborated with more than a hundred artists and citizens over the past three years to improve the presence of Quebec cinema on the platforms of the Wikipedia Foundation, and in particular in the free encyclopedia Wikipedia, the Cinémathèque québécoise announces, as part of its Savoirs Communs du Cinéma initiative, new objectives to strengthen the representation of our culture on the Web.
The new component of the initiative aims to establish a legal and documentary governance framework, in collaboration with women creators, to better take into account the needs related to the reuse of archives and the representation of Quebec and Canadian women filmmakers on the Web.
In addition to this approach, and still driven by the same concerns, the Cinémathèque québécoise has developed a project entitled "La condition des femmes à travers le regard de réalisatrices canadiennes: numérisation, éditorialisation et diffusion numérique". Funded by Canadian Heritage's Museums Assistance Program – Digital Access to Heritage, has enabled the digitization of part of the archives here, as well as the development of this platform.
